99 Projects presents The Magic Hour, a solo exhibition by London-based photographer Cody Burridge. The exhibition features four different collections that capture Cody’s fascination with light and colour as well as his ability to transform the everyday into captivating imagery.
About
The Magic Hour is presented at Cody Burridge’s home town in Kensal Rise which, along with other areas of North and West London, appears in different ways throughout the exhibition. The great Isambard Kingdom Brunel bridges near Paddington Station, for instance, can be seen in the form of abstract images of rust and colour, while the petrol station near Kensal Rise appears as a nocturnal, desolate scene.
The layout follows Cody’s attention to shapes, colour, and light, inspiring the exhibition title The Magic Hour, which he describes as ‘that special moment, when the natural light in the sky has dropped to the same level as the artificial light in these self-service style, somewhat solitary locations. This creates a strikingly cinematic moment where the manmade light of the land and the natural light of the sky meet together in the same exposure, thus creating a truly beautiful effect.’
‘End of an Easel’, ‘The Magic Hour’, ‘In Time we Rust’, and ‘A Different View’ are the four collections featured in the exhibition and will be shown to the public during Cody Burridge’s first ever solo show.
