About

Marías is a work-in-progress dance and poetry performance inspired and created by Pacheco during the recent staged reading of the book, Killing Marías, written by Washington State’s Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna. Recorded music by Trio Guadalevin will accompany the piece. Drawing on Mexican Son Jarocho and Huasteco, melodies sung in Zapotec, Spanish xácaras, Italian ciaccona, Andalusian song, Sephardic balladry and Moroccan shabia – Abel Rocha, August Denhard and Antonio Gómez are Trio Guadalevin.

Milvia Berenice Pacheco Salvatierra is an Afrolatina artist, born in Caracas, Venezuela, where she trained in dance and theater. Experiences with trauma at an early age fueled her drive toward movement and she devoted her life to reaching liberation through art and movement. As a contemporary dancer, choreographer, performer, bodyworker, mother and Community Organizer, MÁS (Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle) has become the platform where she serves as a conduit for empowerment and beyond empowerment for herself and others.
