The Porthminster Gallery is delighted to present its opening show of 2016, entitled ‘Coast’, showcasing diverse works by five handpicked artists and their breadth of inspiration gained from the Cornish coastline.
About
The show features the work of painters Andrew Bird, Alex Morton and Martyn Perryman, and ceramicists Clare Conrad and Barry Stedman.
Andrew Bird studied Graphic Design at Sheffield and later Fine Art at Bradford. He is now based in Debyshire and a frequent visitor to Cornwall where he finds a large amount of his inspiration.
Alex Morton is a British artist living in Winchester having recently re-located from Cornwall. Unexpectedly finding painting in 2012 Alex discovered an immediate talent and new found passion.
Martyn Perryman, b.1963, primarily works from the Portland Studios next to the woodlands of Bookham Common Surrey, England; as well as a converted Sail Loft in St Ives, Cornwall.
Clare Conrad is a highly regarded and collected ceramicist whose innovative rugged textured wheel-thrown pots evoke memories of travelling in Greece and Sicily but also the strongly contrasting colours and textures of the wild, dramatic landscape of the Penwith Peninsula, here in Cornwall.
Barry Stedman gained a BA (Hons) Ceramics in 2009 from the University of Westminster, Harrow Campus with First Class Honours. He then spent a year as an assistant at Edmund De Waal's studio in London - one of the world's leading artists working in ceramics today.
