About
CLUBS of the FUTURE – Common Spaces in Transitional Societies – is an exhibition in two locations with a lecture program and workshops at various locations around Alexanderplatz in the center of Berlin.
CLUBS of the FUTURE takes communal spaces worldwide, especially cultural centres in Europe and the GDR, as its starting point and opens up a space for reflection on current projects of community, commoning and reform. The project takes place in a time of change in which collaborative practices, alternative economies, new networks and shared civil spaces and societies are being re-tested and negotiated.
The project was prompted by research into the approximately 1,800 cultural centers in the former GDR, two thirds of which were closed after reunification. To this day, there is a gap here that is currently being exploited by right-wing groups.
The exhibitions at the Kunstverein am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and at the Haus der Statistik (OTTO-Halle) in summer/autumn 2024 are spatially and temporally interlinked and present an initial collection that will be continuously supplemented and shown at other locations in Eastern Europe and the world in the future.
