Cloth of a Thousand is a residency project led by artists Fourthland and Rosalind Fowler.
The residency will use objects and the creation of a sculptural cloth to gather stories and form new myths between migrant and minority groups and Cornish residents.
The artists will work across the mediums of object-making, craft, sculpture, performance and 16mm film to develop gatherings in partnership with Cornwall Faith Forum. These collaborative sessions will involve the sharing of fragments, narratives, and gestures, informing the development of the Cloth of a Thousand.
The residency will also involve learning skills from Cornish Crafts people including withy-pot making and natural dyeing, taking materials and inspiration from the local landscape. The artists will also initiate a series of explorations and performative walks unearthing local histories from new and ancient sites.
The project is interested in using craft, improvisation and an experimental ethnographic approach to re-imagine points of inter-connectedness between diverse groups of people.
