This Close of Play Event is hosted by GSA MLitt Art Writing graduate Maria Howard.

Khidr Collective will talk about Issue 4 of Khidr Collective Zine ‘Water’. This zine contains essays, fiction, illustrations, photography and multimedia art that explore the contributors’ relationship with water. They look at how water “affects some of our political and economic structures, and how it transports our personal memories. [They] explore the manifestation of water in our daily lives, the comfort it provides to those who are suffering, and the mercy it carries when it falls from the skies.”

Khidr Collective is a UK-based multidisciplinary arts collective which curates and platforms the work of Muslim artists. Khidr Collective also collaborates with writers, poets, illustrators, filmmakers, photographers and creatives more broadly to produce original work.

BIOS

Nishat Alam is Photography Editor of Khidr Collective Zine. She works in a museum and in archives, and is interested in art, craft, analogue photography and history. @notnishat

Warda Khokhar is Non-Fiction Editor of Khidr Collective Zine. She is a photographer, writer, and researcher interested in the study of welfare, social policy and peacebuilding. Warda previously contributed to the ‘Memories of Partition’ exhibition by The Manchester Museum and Seoulbeats, providing socio-cultural analysis of the Korean entertainment industry. @wardamehek

Zainab Rahim is Non-Fiction Editor of Khidr Collective Zine. Zainab is the editor of a comment website called The Platform. Her writing focuses on arts and culture, local history and global politics. @zainoted

Maria Howard is a writer and artist based in Glasgow. Her practice examines the links between memory, place and the climate crisis through a watery lens. She is also an associate editor for Nothing Personal magazine. She graduated from the Art Writing MLitt at The Glasgow School of Art in 2021. mariahoward.org
