About

Please note that this event is taken place at 22 Bardsley Lane, Greenwich SE10 and not at BEARSPACE in Deptford. During the opening drinks reception & over the 10 days of exhibition, ex- Goldsmiths artist Karin Ludman will be building a live installation accompanied by two films & archive material documenting the artists close encounter with the third kind. Spielberg's movie Close Encounters of The Third Kind" deals with the obsession of building indoor mountains as an unconscious creative act. Following in particular the films mountain building main character, Ludmann sees this as a definition of a artist's basic intention and mysterious motivation. Having felt drawn to build mountains of different sizes and materials over the last few years, this obsession has begun to dominate the artists work. Ludmann's live building of this installation every day during the exhibition opening times tries to find an answer to this strange intention.
