Landscape, beyond the imagination. Drawings & paintings from the ongoing British Isles, North Cornish Coast & Alaska Series’
About
'Clare Thatcher works and lives in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire. She makes work in response to particular landscape features that have had a profound effect on her, mostly in tidal and coastal areas which are deeply connected to a sense of 'place'. The locations and focus of her attention is highly selective and personal, one that evokes a strong, emotionally felt response. Central to Clare’s practice is the use of pure colour which she makes from pigment. The limited palette and impact of both colour and surface aim to capture the mood and sensation of an ever-changing landscape. The work is about specifically visited places and is particularly driven by initial drawings in-situ. The selected drawings and paintings demonstrate the breadth of Clare’s recent work, from three ongoing series' in which she continues to contemplate the concept of 'place' visited or revisited many times.'
