This Royal Arts Prize Visitors’ Choice Award Exhibition brings together Clare Law’s stunning landscapes and Jo Holdsworth’s captivating cityscapes.

About

Both artists won the Visitors’ Choice Award for the Royal Arts Prize in 2019 and are thrilled to be exhibiting together at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, Pall Mall.

Clare Law’s studio is based within the Tamar Valley in Cornwall. Inspired by the natural world and Impressionism, her rich oil paintings are created using only a small painting knife. With a sculptural quality, the tonal values and light are beautifully observed with the texture being an unconditional conscious response to the physicality of the subject matter. Working with the complexity of light, colour and texture, she is drawn to the rich vegetation and scenes of water where the intricacy of all three values can be fully explored.

Jo Holdsworth is a London-based artist who is inspired by the capital’s ever-changing landscape. Her remarkable paintings depict striking figures within urban environments in which Jo is particularly drawn to the individual in the crowd and the relationships between each person and the space that they occupy. Jo is heavily influenced by photography and several commentators have also referred to the cinematic nature of Jo’s work which harnesses a modernist approach to form, combining a subtle colour palette with loose, spontaneous brushwork.

Both artists have exhibited widely in solo and group shows and their work is collected both nationally and internationally. Between them, their paintings have recently been at the Affordable Art Fair, La Galleria Pall Mall, the 508 Gallery in Chelsea, the Mall Galleries, Delamore Arts, the Limekiln Gallery and the Menier Gallery London.

The Royal Arts Prize has been running since 2014 to showcase some of the world’s best artistic talent with a view to seeking artists who create the most meaningful connection and impact, using original thought and creativity.
