About
For her second solo exhibition at the gallery Claire Pestaille will present a new body of work including paintings and sculptures.Developing her pervious concerns Pestaille continues to investigate the history of painting and its development throughout the course of arts history and the characters immortalized by past generations. The artist considers these departed personalities through contemporary eyes, and with a knowledge of what has gone beyond them.
Entrenched in layers of time and veiled within supplementary trappings Pestaille's women echo those of fairytale and legend filtered through literature and film. The characters and scenes reflect dualities of feminine and masculine, beauty and horror, decadence and decay.
Claire Pestaille graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2000. Recent exhitbions include The Portrait at Ashwin Street, London and in early 2007 her work is to be included in a group show at Engholm Engelhorn Galerie, Vienna which considers the 17th century academic hierarchy of painting genres.
