An exhibition of powerful new paintings by resident Fountain Gallery artist Suzy Abrahams and guest ceramicist Julie Barham.

About

Focusing on the key elements of artistic composition: Circles, Lines and Squares, Suzy Abrahams presents a powerful new collection of acrylic paintings on canvas alongside Julie Barham’s colourful ceramic tableware and ornamental stoneware.

Goldsmiths’ trained Suzy Abrahams enthusiastically explains. ‘I have always been fascinated by geometric shapes, in particular, the circle, a recurring element in my work but now I am emphasising gesture and brushstrokes to achieve expression within the confines of a hard edge-painting environment.

Suzy’s use of colour is exceptional. She uses vibrant contrasts, flame reds, olive greens, glowing oranges, gold and silver, electric greens and purples but also the quieter stability of blues and turquoises. Inspiration for some of the paintings are taken from the famous Austrian master painter Gustav Klimt.

Suzy’s paintings will be complemented by Julie Barham’s colourful tableware which is inspired by the patterns and colours she sees reflected in nature, architecture and textiles. Her more sculptural work reflects the natural beauty of the coast and of plants and their seedpods, which will be on display in the pretty Fountain Garden at the rear of the gallery.

Both artists will be present on Monday Bank Holiday 2 May from midday as well as on Sundays 8 & 15 May when visitors are welcome to join them for drinks and nibbles. The gallery will be flooded with colour and visitors will be assured of a warm welcome.
