It’s no secret that finding Queer film to watch on the big screen is no easy feat. The Queer art scene in the second city continues to grow and flourish, and CineQ is here to champion Queer Cinema in Birmingham.
About
CineQ is an expanding collective of LGBT+ film event programmers passionate about growing LGBT + Queer film programming in the West Midlands (current members include Birmingham LGBT, SHOUT Festival, and Flatpack Projects). CineQ focuses on
Queer foreign and British film, shining a light on varied perspectives from the queer community that are largely underrepresented, as well as screening recent releases that sometimes don’t always make it to Birmingham’s independent cinemas and multiplexes.
Winner of ‘Best Canadian Feature Film’ at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, Stephen Dunn’s fantastical Closet Monster explores the life of Oscar (Connor Jessup), whose childhood trauma and need to escape his mother, father, and hometown is made bearable by locking himself in a crafted fantasy. But when a new love threatens his asexuality, Oscar is forced to confront reality in order to move forward with his life and fulfill his dreams.
