Preview of ICO Essentials: POP

This afternoon for our special CinematICA screening we present nine iconic Pop films from the 50s and 60s alongside work that preceded the Pop Art movement and work from its many legacies. Drawing on the proliferation of brand-name products, logos, billboards, comic books, popular press, advertising, television and Hollywood films, these artists create radical new perspectives on mass production and popular culture. We are also pleased to welcome Peter Whitehead to the ICA who will introduce the screening with curator Tanya Leighton. Following the screening Peter will discuss his career with William Fowler, Curator of Artists Moving Images NFTVA . Broadway by Light (William Klein, 1957) Film Montage I (Peter Roehr, 1965-68) When I Was Young (Peter Whitehead, 1965) Short Line Long Line (Thom Anderson, Malcolm Brodwick, 1966-67) Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable (Ron Nameth, 1967-2005) Link (Derek Boshier, 1970) Trilogy (Jeff Keen, 1967-72) The Selling of New York (Nam June Paik, 1972) I'm Not The Girl Who Misses Much (Pipilotti Rist, 1986) Curated by Tanya Leighton.
