About
Chris Twiney: FINLANDIAVernissage: Friday 5th January, 6 – 8 PM.
Ackerstrasse 163.
Chris Twiney’s new series of work presented in FINLANDIA seeks to identify how Finland is portrayed in the worldwide media. On one hand, Finland is depicted as being one of the best countries in the world for education and quality of life. However, on the other hand, it is shown to have alarming domestic violence and alcohol issues. These contradictory statistics and headlines from a wide source of media organisations are turned into text paintings, which are then installed and photographed in the idyllic Finnish countryside. This work offers his audience a chance to stop and reflect on the power of the media and the influence it has shaping our perception of the world in which we live.
