There and Back is a series of sensitive, yet energetic paintings inspired by photographs recording a journey made by the artist, back and forth to her workplace from 1993 to 2008. Through various weather conditions and different seasons, she has depicted a landscape usually considered peripheral, outside of our focus. She has captured and re-worked these once fleeting landscapes as markers of both the passing and continuity of time. Continuing these ideas in a new body of work 'Naming and Knowing', these paintings and digital prints are combined with ideas and work made during her fellowship at The Art/Science project at Salford University, relating to research on classification and knowledge - an exploration of the need to label the world around us, to rationalize and give meaning to it, despite its passing us by over time.
Chris was awarded the fellowship during her MA year at The University of Sussex, before becoming head of the busy and successful art department at Sharnbrook Upper School. This show will mark her return to painting full time.
