‘It is a Sad and Beautiful World’ launches several new prints by the artist, exclusive to the show. These artworks embody the techniques and themes that Chris has become renowned for, yet also mark exciting new directions.
Chris Bourke has developed a reputation within the print community and beyond, for his masterful use of linocut. His artworks are the result of a vigorous and labour-intensive process, that celebrate the game of chance involved in handmade prints.
His inspirations stem from a collusion of tattoo imagery, religious iconography, music, skateboarding, nature and politics. His artworks often combine draughtmanship with text from Latin and Buddhist phrases, pop culture and beyond, that resound deeply with the beholder.
