Celebrate the start of Summer with Chelsea's annual Summer fete
About
Celebrate the start of summer with Chelsea’s annual Summer Fete, taking place across the streets of the much-loved neighbourhood. From yoga classes, workshops and traditional fete games on Duke of York Square, to the Summer wine bar, ice cream stalls and food offering on Pavilion Road, the Summer Fete is the perfect family day out for all residents, Londoners and visitors alike to enjoy.
Duke of York Square will once more play host to the ultimate garden party, inviting families to relax while enjoying acoustic music by roaming musicians, or take part in sporting events and games. For the early birds, a yoga class by local gym KXU will kick start the festivities at 11am. The running track by Saatchi Gallery will be open for the day, with a football skills session for kids and adults by the Chelsea FC Foundation from 1pm-2:30pm, as well as polo-swing practice, hosted by Westcroft Park.
This year, for the very first time, the Duke of York Square Running Track will become a racecourse of Austin J40 pedal cars that compete for the prestigious Settrington Cup at the Goodwood Revival. Heats are to be held from 12pm in which children aged 5-10 years old will compete for the chance to take part at this year’s Goodwood Revival, the world’s foremost historic motorsport event (which will be held on 13th-15th September).
Guests to Duke of York Square can head to a quiet corner of the green to listen to their favourite stories with Peter Jones and Partners, or visit the National Army Museum pop up for an interactive army experience. The much-loved Chelsea Pensioners will be back by popular demand with a pottery stand, and the Chelsea Physic Garden Flower Crown Workshop will also be taking place throughout the afternoon. Lastly, renowned children’s entertainers Sharky & George will be hosting the ultimate children’s Fete Party, open and free for all to attend.
To complement the family fun, a stone’s throw away from the Square, Pavilion Road will be providing their own twist to the fete with the resident artisan traders opening up their restaurant and shopfront doors for a summer street party. Guests to Pavilion Road can roam up and down to taste the exceptional offerings, including Provenance Butchers’ BBQ, patisseries and pizza at the Bread Ahead stall and a seafood BBQ from ‘fishmonger by day, seafood bar by night’, The Sea, The Sea.
For those looking to relax with a glass of wine or a cocktail, Pavilion Wine will open their Summer Wine Bar, with London Cheesemongers Cheese and Wine Bar nearby, or guests can head to Hans’ Bar & Grill’s Cocktail Stand. Roaming musicians programmed by Cadogan Hall will provide musical ambience, with face painting and balloon artists present throughout the day. For those looking for something sweet, Ice Cream Union will be providing their unique ice creams and sorbets with their street stall.
