From 4 March – 3 May 2020, Chef’s Legacy and The Actors’ Last Supper will be displayed at the 3’6 Bar, in Fortnum’s flagship Piccadilly store.
About
This March, Fortnum & Mason unveils Chef’s Legacy, a work by renowned photographer Alistair Morrison, which was created for The Felix Project Charity Auction in 2019. Chef’s Legacy brings together 18 of Britain’s best-known chefs, each sitting for their own individual portrait, in an effort to raise money for The Felix Project – a London-based food waste charity that delivers surplus food to over 350 front-line charities to provide healthy meals to those in need.
Also on view is The Actors’ Last Supper, a monumental tour de force that casts 13 renowned British actors in a contemporary recreation of Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic painting. Photographing the actors in groups of three or four, Morrison asked them to react to Jesus’ proclamation that one of the disciples would betray him, capturing this moment of shock and disbelief. The work was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery and was exhibited at the Gallery in 2012.
Alistair Morrison said: ‘Fortnum’s has always shown great support for the Arts and recently hosted a charitable fundraiser in aid of The Felix Project, for my Legacy photographs – ‘Great Britons’ and ‘Chef’s Legacy’. The Latter, in particular, celebrates the staggering transformation in British culinary culture over the past decades. It’s an honour to exhibit these works at an institution that provided vital support to this development.’
Zia Zareem-Slade, Customer Experience Director of Fortnum & Mason, commented: ‘We’re excited to share these impressive works with our guests and customers. Fortnum’s is incredibly proud of both our place in British culinary culture and our long-standing support of The Felix Project so to be able to celebrate both in this way is quite extraordinary.’
This presentation forms part of a trilogy of shows also taking place at the Mall Galleries and Gurr Johns. From 17 to 28 March, Retrospective at Mall Galleries will feature a collection of Morrison’s photographs from the past 40 years, including many of his most renowned and recognisable portraits. Between 23 and 27 March, Gurr Johns will unveil highlights from Immune from Praise and Abuse, an exciting new series of fine art photographs inspired by the search for a moment of truth through portraiture.
