Charlie Betts' vibrant paintings consider the relationship between painting and performance and explore ideas of time, movement, gesture and traces of becoming.
About
Showing a series of new works at Farnham Maltings during November which though relatively abstract in form relate to, and at times suggest, traces of the figure in movement through space and time. The works combine acrylics, oils, inks, drawing, sewing, dyes and metals on paper or canvas.
Often moments of intense activity are contrasted with areas of space or geometric layers, framing and providing a further dimension to the pieces. Charlie works intuitively on these paintings and drawings and is inspired by the performance of daily life, phrases and the spoken and written word, fragments of which begin to emerge in some of the pieces.
Charlie holds an MA in Fine Art with Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London with a BA Hons degree in Fine Art. Charlie is currently a resident artist at Farnham Maltings and has exhibited widely nationally.
