Charley Peters
Reduction
26/07/13 - 23/08/13
Private View, Friday 26/07/13
6:30 - 9:30pm
Engaging with labour intensive and process-based practices, Charley Peters' work exists within the expanded field of drawing. Employing visual systems that embrace both logical and intuitive methods of production, she views drawing as a tool for active engagement and response - a reflexive and open-ended medium that reacts to its material and spatial conditions. The works in Reduction start with the most rudimentary of media; paper and graphite. Drawings are developed into densely worked reflective surfaces and manipulated through interventions in the paper plane, engaging with light, space and form.
In 2006 Peters completed a PhD in Fine Art, which explored notions of the interior space in art and its relationship to Freud's writings on The Uncanny. She has held academic posts at institutions including University of the Arts London, Manchester Metropolitan
University, Leeds College of Art, and Victoria and Albert Museum.
In 2012 Peters was shortlisted for the Salon Art Prize and the Beers Lambert Award for Emerging Artists. In 2013 she was Artist in Residence at The Centre for Drawing, Wimbledon College of Art.
Charley Peters lives and works in south London.
