CHARLES JAMIESON AN ARTIST ABROAD
An exhibition of New Paintings
Stafford Gallery at Wimbledon Fine Art, Wimbledon Village, SW19 5DQ
22 September 6 October 2013
An Artist Abroad is a return for Charles Jamieson to Wimbledon. From the mid-seventies he pursued a career as an actor and starred at Wimbledon Theatre as Toad in âToad of Toad Hall'. Six years in âTake the High Road' made him a well-known face north of the border, other TV appearances include âRiver City', Taggart and Blake's 7.
Described in The Scottish Herald as one of Scotland's 50 most collectable artists, award-winning Scottish painter, Charles Jamieson's painting career has taken him on many journeys and adventures, in pursuit of locations that inspired his many painting heroes from Fairfield Porter to David Hockey via Matisse.
Travelling with his sketchbook and camera Charles Jamieson captures images from which he creates paintings of his initial inspirational moment. He searches to find beauty in the simplest of moments. Jamieson's paintings are minimal and coherent, underpinned by traditional perspective and drawing. They reveal a balance of a love of colour, medium and visual reality, he offers us a wonderfully fresh and personal viewpoint.
