Welcome to the Light Source Night School Talks Program
We are pleased to present our fifth talk in our series, by Charity Kase- TRANSformation Class + meet and greet!
Queer Witchcraft for Transforming Witches as an antidote to Transphobic Potter Mania.
Transforming via transfiguration via costume, make up, and drag to embrace and enhance your queer body- becoming our own myths, monsters and fairytales.
Experience the art of transformation with Charity Kase. A masterclass in character makeup and a discussion on the representation and iconography of witches throughout modern media. Charity will take you through the stages it takes to create an effective character makeup and teach how to turn your makeup brush into a magic wand.
All ages welcome.
Bring your best monstrous or mythical looks to experiment with.
Charity is a “Derranged Star in the Making” - The guardian
Charity Kase is one of the iconic queens of Rupaul's Drag Race UK! She first came to prominence in 2017 when she completed a 365 days of drag challenge, creating a new character look every day of the year. Ranging from a disheveled Theresa may to a lady made of carrot, from Salad fingers to a Venus fly trap creature. This gained interest and media coverage from the likes of Vogue, The independent and Vice.
She has been lucky enough to perform in venue across the world, including in Tokyo, Paris, New York and Milan. Bringing modern drag lip-syncs and freaky character performance art mixed with heaps of gore, gunge and glamour. She has also brought her imaginative expertise to festivals such as Bestival, Wilderness and Boomtown, leading a team of walkabout performers and creating immersive and unique fantasy worlds.
He has experience modelling as both Harry and Charity for editorial, online, television campaigns, fashion shows and catwalks. For example, London fashion week, London Queer Fashion Week, O2 advertising campaigns and the International hair awards. Over the past few years he has collaborated with amazing musicians and artists such as Ashnikko, Neck Deep and Plan B, featuring in music videos and promotional shoots.
Light Source is a program of talks exploring Witch Hunts and Ritual Performance hosted by artist Amy Kingsmill.
This is our second talk in a series of 12 monthly talks and workshops on these themes, please check back at our website as we announce our full list of speakers and dates.
Light Source brings light to lost histories of persecuted people- primarily women, and honours them. It explores and expands the use of body performance techniques and contextualises them within the practice of queer people and women, creating a space to share these techniques & histories.
This talk is at William Waldo Suite, Friends House Euston Road. 173-177 Euston Rd, London NW1 2BJ
This project is funded by the Arts Council England.
