Artist Frank Gamibino will host our first tutored workshop to give you tips and trips on how to draw the human body with charcoal. You will be able to try out new techniques with two models from Art Model Collective that will make sure to provide you with plenty of inspiration.

About

Art Model Collective are inviting Frank Gambino to host our first TUTORED workshop!

Frank has been a loyal supporter of Art Model Collective from the day one, and constantly wowed them with his work. Many of us wonder: how does Frank manage to use humble tool of a charcoal to quickly create expressive sculptural drawings that look three-dimensional?

Frank assures us that, with a few quick tips, anyone can achieve these incredible results. This is your chance to try out these techniques, with models you already know well from AMC sessions - Carla and Manko.

Frank says: "I plan to start the class with a short (very short) demo. This will show the class how to think about using charcoal to draw the human body: the material’s pliability, the type of mark making that charcoal is able to give you, the speed it enables you work at, and how you can use charcoal to draw figure from the inside out.

After the demo, I will start the class drawing with four five minute warm-up poses. Following poses will be:
Ten minutes,
Twenty minutes,
A short break for ten or fifteen minutes,
Final one hour pose with two models.

I will then go around the class for the rest of the session assisting people with their drawings on an individual basis. As the session progresses I plan to show the class how to use charcoal to describe volume and depth. It will be manly be figure work (though I am happy to help any class members who wishes to draw a portrait).

This class will be more about attitude than it is about aptitude, though hopefully the people who come will more aptitude with charcoal by the end of the class." Though this class is predominantly about learning to use charcoal, artists can use other materials if they wish.

Admission on the door: £15
Time: 7pm-9pm
All levels welcome.

As usual, we welcome other life models who have worked with AMC before to come and draw free of charge.

Chairs and drawing boards provided, some table spaces available.
