About

Things are not what they seem in Michael Shaw's world. Luminous forms change colour and a sinuous inflatable lives and breathes amongst the gallery's architecture. Centrepiece of this show is the breathing inflatable INF14. One distinct form winds its way around the gallery's central lighting rig. Its orange counterpart descends like molten lava or an alien stalactite, only to be penetrated by the sinister flowering of the dark tendril. Whatever it may be, it seems on the brink of overpowering the gallery, like a giant intestinal parasite. Elsewhere Shaw's organic sculptures in ‘live edge' acrylic glow brightly without mains power. Other works have further chameleonic qualities with sculptures thermoformed in a plastic that changes colour according to the viewer's relative position.
