About
The world has changed and caused many of us to search out ways to refocus our lives. A year on from the start of the pandemic, Google revealed that in 2020 searches for ‘prayer’ soared. This questioning after the divine is the inspiration behind the second £10,000 Chaiya Art Awards prize and exhibition God is….’Commenting on the awards and this year’s theme, author Ann Clifford says: “Our understanding of life is individual, but we all cry out in pain and pleasure, we all crave connection and something more… Grasping the opportunity to explore spirituality will enrich, sustain and offer adventurous hope.”
Selected from over 700 entries, the 50 visual artists featured in this juried and curated exhibition ‘GOD is …’ a mystery explored through canvas and paper, photographs and video, others cloth and stitch; 3D metalwork and pottery; bronze and stone sculpture; glass and pipework; a movement sensitive robot alongside an interactive sign with sonic sensors.
The Chaiya Art Awards is the UK’s largest awards exploring spirituality through the visual arts, an inclusive competition for artists, whatever their faith or views on God.
The panel of five judges, all well respected experts in the arts arena, will be announcing the winner of the top prize of £10,000 along with other prizes. But visitors will also have their say, in voting for public prize from the artwork on display during the exhibition.
