Celebrating the current rich diversity of contemporary ceramics

About

New Ashgate Gallery presents work by Peter Beard, Karen Bunting, Jack Doherty, Fenella Elms, Carolyn Genders, Ruth King, Claudia Lis, Sophie MacCarthy, Gareth Mason, Marcus O'Mahoney and Kaori Tatebayashi. In an exciting collaboration taking place in May this year, the Craft Potters Association (CPA) and four galleries throughout the UK will celebrate the current rich diversity of contemporary ceramics. The galleries will hold simultaneous exhibitions, each showing a different group of CPA makers selected by the gallery as an Illustration of Ceramics Now. The inspiration for this collaboration comes from a shared concern to promote the important relationship between makers, audience and galleries and the need to develop an understanding that the gallery has a key role in educating a wide audience about this diverse art form as well as promoting and selling the work of the makers they represent. Those already interested will find new enjoyment in the wide range of makers on show - some sixty across the country - and this unique event will also promote interest to a wider public and help in the creation of a new generation of connoisseurs and collectors. As Emmanuel Cooper said, collectors are the life blood of ceramics. The other galleries involved are the Bevere Gallery, Worcester - 1 June to 29 June; the Bluecoat Display Centre, Liverpool - 1 June to 20 July and the Contemporary Ceramics Centre, London - 6 June to 29 June.
