About
Renato Costa e Silva is a researcher and storyteller, his sculpture tells us about it. If on the one hand they are the result of a methodical process of conception that goes through drawings and models, the preparation of the raw material until the most exact execution, preserves and cultivates, on the other hand, a spontaneity in the process of modeling and a willingness to experiment that culminates in the delivery of the pieces to the action of fire. Carried out in prepared and optimized folders for each new work, the pieces in stoneware or porcelain approach his vision of the world, and let emerge a deep understanding of the human being, full of humor and affection.
Renato Costa e Silva always takes us to the heart of the matter. Learning from him is a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the entire ceramic process, from the formation of clays to the preparation of suitable pastes for each job, from construction techniques, preparation and use of glazes to wood firing.
Together with Kerstin Thomas, he will support each student to progress and take home objects and small sculptures that reflect not only the learning done but also the personal expression of each one.
Program
- Development, planning and realization of your ideas;
- Choosing and preparing the appropriate folder for your project;
- Reflection on aesthetic options;
- Several techniques for the construction of your sculpture;
- Reflection on surfaces and textures;
- Reflection on the infinite possibilities of wood firing;
- Active monitoring of the joint firing of the sculptures in Sasukenei - Smokeless Kiln.
The course fee includes:
- Integration in small working groups (4 to 6 people);
- Training 6 - 8 hours/day with technical assistant, spoken in English and Portuguese;
- Studio open 12 hours a day;
- All materials;
- Shared room accommodation in our Residences (shared house with equipped kitchen, changing room, washing machine and Wifi) or 10% discount for individual accommodation with a minimum of 2 nights;
- Welcome dinner.
