About
“The exhibition is wide-ranging and fun, with some lovely works by famous names and also pieces that will be less familiar. I hope we'll show people that 20th century British art is exuberant and surprising!” - James Russell
Presented thematically, the exhibition will expose intriguing relationships and surprising similarities between works on display and makes use of the gallery's corridors, corners and changing perspectives to add intrigue and fun.
There will be a rare opportunity to view watercolours by artists involved in the medium’s revival between the wars, and to enjoy work by each member of the group of artists who represented Britain in the ‘New Aspects of British Sculpture’ exhibition at the 1952 Venice Biennale.
Key pieces by Tristram Hillier, William Roberts, John Armstrong and Barbara Hepworth who are well represented in the two collections will also be on display.
