We present three series by award winning South African photographer Lee-Ann Olwage. Lee-Ann uses photography as a mode of co-creation with her subjects and as celebration.
About
We present three series -- #BlackDragMagic, The Right to Play and The Dance. #BlackDragMagic is a collaborative project created by the artist and drag activist Belinda Qaqamba Kafassie. This series tells the stroies of black queer, gender-nonconfirming and trans people living in the townships of Cape Town. The Right To Play imagines a world where girls, instead of leaving school early to marry or work, are empowered and affirmed to stay in school and follow their dreams. The Dance is a celebration of youth living in the Cape Town township The Cape Flats who, against all odds, finish school, which gives them to right to attend the end of school dance, the matric dance. When this happens, the entire township celebrates.
