About
The day will feature open studios, a print workshop, a community-produced film screening, and the assembly of art kits for distribution amongst our partners working with young people. This Celebration Day is a day to make, talk and celebrate together, with gratitude. Our Celebration Day is a fundraiser to support our free art exhibitions and workshops. When you support Modern Painters, you support our community of artists, volunteers, students, and young people who creatively contribute to our town.
10am: Open Studios: Explore our small studio of painters, printmakers and multimedia makers. Our artists will be on hand to talk to you about their work (access via stairs only).
10am: Making Art Packs: Calling all helping hands! Help us put together art packs for young people to explore their creativity. The supplies have been generously funded by Loughborough East Community Association and distributed amongst our partners working with young people.
1pm: Print Your Patch: Join us to create your printing block inspired by signs, symbols and shapes of Loughborough. Have a go at printing fabric patches and using them to mend or embellish your clothes.
3pm: Community Film Screening: We'll be screening 'Make Believe: An Imagined History of Here', a new short film by Josie and Joshua Jones. Josh and Josie made the film with local families by creating silly stories and imagined urban myths.
About 'Our Common Mercies'
Our Celebration Day marks the end of the current exhibition 'Our Common Mercies'. Facilitated by artists Ursula Rose Rae and David John Scarborough, this group project features co-produced artworks by artists, students and young people exploring signs, symbols, text and typography. The project is funded by Arts Council England and Leicestershire County Council.
About Modern Painters, New Decorators
Modern Painters, New Decorators is an artist-led organisation running a gallery, shop and studios from a shopping centre in Loughborough, East Midlands, UK. Artists can positively impact where we live and why we live there. We make visual art projects, community workshops and creative networks to help them. The project was started in 2017 by artists and makers connected to the town.
