About

For Master Drawings New York 2024, Shepherd W&K Galleries is pleased to exhibit Celebrating the Publication of Julien Levy: The Man, His Gallery, His Legacy in tandem with a presentation of the four-volume work by Beth Gates Warren and Marie Difilippantonio on January 27th from 3pm to 5pm. The exhibition features works by Sidney Lazarus and other artists championed by Julien Levy.

In the same year as Levy’s pivotal exhibition Surréalisme of 1932, a selection of drawings by the young American artist Sidney Lazarus was mounted by Levy with the assistance of Lazarus’s mentor Jean Charlot. The recent discovery of this exhibition is now included in the new publication. Drawings by Sidney Lazarus, which was on view from November 26 until December 30, 1932, was held concurrently with two other exhibitions: Etchings by Pablo Picasso: Illustrations for ‘Le Chef-d’oeuvre inconnu’ and Objects by Joseph Cornell. The drawings by the then 20-year-old Lazarus reflected the work of his predecessors James Ensor, Heinrich Kley, Alfred Kubin, Odilon Roden, and Félicien Rops.

To accompany the exhibition celebrating Julien Levy, our Viennese associates, W&K – Wienerroither & Kohlbacher Fine Art, will contribute a selection of works by Austrian artists from Klimt to Brus.

Details for both exhibitions can be found on our website. The exhibitions will run from January 26 to February 24, 2024.
