Since my son, Cato’s death in 2010 my work has become about remembering his life, and my life without him. My practice has evolved into a project of recording the marks he made, both physically and emotionally,
the places that we visited and the images that linger after someone has left
About
This project stems from the loss of Cato and the space that he left behind.
The tree has been an idea for years inspired by the Christmas tree that we decorated together as a
family. Cato was born on Christmas day.
The oak tree that I have chosen is part fallen down as it was hit by lightning several years ago. The
tree will be adorned over 5 days with Cato’s belongings, clothes and bedlinen. Leading up to the tree
is a washing line with clothes hanging in chronological order like a time line culminating in the fallen
tree. I will build little dens in the tree’s bowers’ using Cato’s old TVs and furniture as if the tree has rooms.
