Award-winning author and illustrator exhibits her recent prints and paintings
Illustrator and author Catherine Rayner is one of Sarah Wiseman Gallery’s best loved artists, known for her silkscreen depictions of wild creatures. This will be her third exhibition of work with the gallery, having worked with us for almost ten years. During that time, we’ve been thrilled to see the leaps her career has taken; Catherine has written, illustrated and published around a dozen picture books beloved by children and families around the world and her printmaking and painting have inspired numerous collectors and visitors.
Her vivacious line and fluid, drawing style bring natural movement and a sense of liveliness to her work, as if the animal is about to leap from the paper. She builds layers of colour and texture in each print, often incorporating up to thirty layers, plus she adds hand-finished details with crayon and ink to get the feel of fur (or feathers) just right.
