During the fast-paced energy of Berlin Art Week STUDIO20 extends a tranquil invitation to experience Cate Wind’s collection of tracings developed in the heart of New York last year. Even in busy cultural capitals such as Berlin and New York there is space to reconnect to nature.
About
Traces of New York is artist Cate Winds first solo exhibition in Berlin. By tracing uneven surfaces such as walls and sidewalks, Wind casts light upon energy narratives buried deep within the city's fabric. Through tracing, Wind unearths the rhythms of our natural world, demonstrating how a cityscape can retain its connection to earth. Environments contain energy, our fast-moving society has made us unlearn the art of pausing for a second to connect to it.
To create this series, Wind modified existing tool’s such as paint brushes and ink dispensers and went on to produce her own 3D printed ink dispenser. This tool - alongside sketchbooks of tracings and a selection of paintings also produced in New York during this time will also feature. As well as 3D printing Wind utilizes a new technology that involves extracts the dynamic resonances taken from nature and permanently embedding them in neutral substances, including minerals. This technology was originally inspired by the works of Wilhelm Reich and Rudolph Steiner. These resonances have been shown to have a positive impact on living organisms such as humans, animals, plants, and soil life. The walls of the exhibition have been painted using this substance aiming to heighten the sense of calm in the space.
Believing that art can unlock a healing energy, Wind wants to facilitate an understanding of the energy that surrounds us in life and how we can better connect to it. Even in hostile city environment’s there are traces of nature. You are invited to take part in a collective pause, an embrace of reconnection.
