The CAST project provided an opportunity for 300 participants from Wakefield South East to work collaboratively with artists to create 3-dimensional casts of landmarks in the Yorkshire landscape. Twelve schools and community groups developed their work based on locations through which the Tour will pass on its first and second days, including Ilkley, Aysgarth, Holmfirth, Ripon, York, Knaresborough, Langsett, Keighley and Haworth. As a starting point, children and young people took part in workshops at the gallery to explore the relationship between the landscape and Barbara Hepworth's work, creating sculpture from their own drawings. Finding inspiration in familiar landmarks in the Yorkshire landscape, participants developed their work with Faceless Arts, creating sketches from which a design was made to reflect their site of interest. The designs were carefully carved into clay blanks and then used as moulds to cast bas-reliefs in plaster, which form the main body of work in the exhibition. In addition, participants moulded clay cyclists, creating their own peloton which now race along the gallery walls. CAST is a project designed by Hemsworth Arts & Community Academy and Faceless Arts and jointly funded by Wakefield Council's Creative Partners Grant Scheme.
