About
‘Cartographies’ is an exhibition of moving image art. It explores the technologies of mapping and the mapping of technologies in the contemporary world. How do we cognitively and physically situate ourselves in modern cartographic networks? What are our terms of engagement with this global and unthinkably complex infrastructure? Where do we stand?
Google Earth, Street View, GPS systems, 3D modelling, algorithms and machine learning all serve the contemporary cartographic imperative – to remap the world as a dense, overlapping weave of digital traces turned into exploitable data. The artworks featured in this exhibition critically engage with these technologies to find alternative ways of being in and through cartographic networks.
