Caroline Hall - From A Railway Carriage

About

The Directors of DegreeArt.com are pleased to announce Caroline Hall's second solo exhibition in May this year. Caroline, who enjoyed considerable success following her debut exhibition in November 2008, has been working on a series of paintings inspired by the well-known Robert Louis Stevenson poem ‘From a Railway Carriage. ‘I regularly travel from my studio in Hampshire to London on the train, and I have always been intrigued by the view you get when the train is travelling at speed; the blurring and streaking of the landscape, the flashes of images that are gone before you can properly focus. I stumbled across the Robert Louis Stevenson poem when I was doing some background research at college and it has stuck with me ever since.'Caroline will be showing paintings on board and aluminium that are all inspired by journeys, not just the train journey between Winchester and Waterloo, but also her travels through Cape Town, Austria and Marrakech. Faster than fairies, faster than witches, bridges and houses, hedges and ditches; And charging along like troops in a battle all through the meadows the horses and cattle: All of the sights of the hill and the plain fly as thick as driving rain; And ever again, in the wink of an eye, painted stations whistle by. Here is a child who clambers and scrambles, all by himself and gathering brambles; Here is a tramp who stands and gazes; and here is the green for stringing the daisies! Here is a cart runaway in the road lumping along with man and load; And here is a mill, and there is a river: Each a glimpse and gone forever! (From A Railway Carriage, Robert Louis Stevenson)
