Born May 30, 1915, in Havana, Cuba, Carmen Herrera is still actively working, painting every day in her New York studio.

About

This presentation of approximately 50 works spans three decades of Herrera's work, beginning with the early abstractions she made while living in Paris in the years following World War II. During that time Herrera forged a geometric hard-edged style that she has retained to this day, employing a distilled palette of just two or three colors for each composition. The exhibition will include a selection of abstractions from Paris, a rare gathering of her important Blanco y Verde series, as well as a selection of later paintings, drawings, and several of her rare three-dimensional works. The show, Herrera’s first solo museum presentation in New York since the 1998 exhibition at El Museo del Barrio, will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.
