Banbury Artist has her 3D hand cut collages and transfers on display for Oxfordshire Artweeks
About
Artist from Banbury, Oxfordshire will be displaying her 3D hand cut collages & transfer collages at Day and Nightcare Assistance Offices for Oxfordshire Artweeks.
Oxfordshire based Fine Artist, born in Osaka, Japan. Fine Art Graduate of the University of Southampton, Winchester School of Art.
Gena takes photos in locations that have a link to her childhood memories. She uses these to make digital collages that are transformed into 3D hand cut paper collages and wooden transfers. Her work creates narratives and also touches on surreal and fantasy elements. This then unfolds and presents her longing to be a part of her Japanese heritage through creating idyllic worlds.
Piecing together her two cultural backgrounds, Gena emphasises being torn between two worlds; contrasting the past and present.
Gena’s choice of palette is simple and bold; she sticks to sepia and grey scale tones in order to eliminate as much colour as possible. The reason for this is to focus on the idea of memories and to leave the past behind; the layered photos also combine as one.
