Learn the skills to create your own caricatures and cartoon strips inspired by exhibition ‘A taste of one’s own medicine’ led by Steve Marchant cartoonist and learning coordinator at the Cartoon Museum.
About
Get creative with this exciting workshop inspired by exhibition ‘A taste of one’s own medicine: medical satire at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP)’. Learn the skills to create your own caricatures and cartoon strips led by Steve Marchant cartoonist, learning coordinator and comic art advisor at the Cartoon Museum.
Exhibition, ‘A taste of one’s own medicine’ explores the ridiculed and the reviled in the satirical prints collection of the RCP. Join our workshop for an introduction to the exhibition and many of featured prints before stepping into the classroom with cartoonist Steve Marchant. The historic prints are all linked to medicine and science and highlight the style of satirical cartoons from some of the iconic artists of the ‘golden age’ of British satirical print making including William Hogarth, Thomas Rowlandson, George Cruikshank and James Gillray.
Inspired by the collection learn how to create your own caricatures of famous individuals, develop key techniques and build your own cartoon strip.
This workshop is for adults – a children’s workshop will be taking place later in the year.
This is a hybrid workshop - you can take part in person at the Royal College of Physicians striking home on the edge of Regent’s Park or join us online.
This event is supported by the Art Fund.
