About

On the banks of the River Severn, close to central Newtown and Oriel Davies, a mysterious and surprising presence could suddenly appear... Is it an invasion? Why are they here? What do they want? Keep your eyes peeled... Camp DAG is by The Disabled Avant Garde (aka DAG), a satirical arts organisation comprising disability artists Katherine Araniello and Aaron Williamson. The commission reflects their arts practice, which is based around video and performance and often confronts society's perceptions and expectations of disabled people. It also involves eight disabled artists from across Wales who will contribute to the final project. Camp DAG forms part of the ambitious visual arts project, Outside In, which focuses on increasing the number of Disabled and Deaf artists working within mainstream galleries. The project is coordinated by DASH (Disability Arts Shropshire) working in partnership with Oriel Davies, The New Art Gallery Walsall and Wolverhampton Art Gallery to commission innovative and original Disability Art for inclusion in their programmes in 2010 and 2011.
