olFACTORY, an immersive multisensory experience by Camilla Nicklaus-Maurer pays tribute to Andy Warhol's conception of perfume as a way of taking up more space. olFACTORY takes up the darkened gallery space with smells that contrast metallic scents with the creamy sweetness of banana.

About

olFACTORY takes up the gallery space with smells that are echoed by the tin foil that covers the gallery's walls and ceiling as they covered Warhol's Silver Factory. Visitors will experience olFACTORY alone or in small groups in the darkened gallery as an escape into a smell-filled cave in the heart of New York City. Nicklaus-Maurer uses two scents she created for this exhibition, Young Banana and Old Banana, to map the ripening of a banana olfactorily onto the physical space of the gallery. While Warhol's Permanent Smell Collection remains unsmelled in the archives of Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum, olFACTORY temporarily occupies the gallery space as only olfactory art can.
