Returning to my home town with a business we started just under four years ago feels like the circle is almost complete. My first job was here in Cambridge, as an Air Traffic Controller, about as far removed from my current vocation.
Having moved to North Yorkshire, via a lot of places, and marrying my business partner (Kate Bentley) we started on our madcap idea to create a gallery specialising in sculpture and ceramics. Part of this was the heritage of the buildings we had taken on, built in part by John Bunting who had trained with Robert Thompson and Henry Moore before teaching Anthony Gormley at nearby Ampleforth College. The rest was pure passion.
It wasn't long before we attract both great sculptors and discerning buyers from our rural idyll. Now as we continue to grow up (about right at 48 years of age) we are moving to new premises in a nearby town with the new site opening on the 3rd September.
Cambridge Art Fair falls less than a month later and we will bring a selection of 10 artists whom regularly show with us in Yorkshire along with 4 debutants to the gallery. There's a sculptural theme running though the stand - it's not the normal white box!
