About

_About the Workshop: A one day workshop to get the feel for letters, ink, paper and the tools. We will explore the construction of letters, mark making with an emphasis on rhythm and texture helping to create emotion and expression on paper. To develop these skills takes time, effort and dedication. This workshop will hopefully show you the potential of calligraphy both as a graphic and painterly tool. 10am — 4pm with a break for lunch. Cost £90 (Students £80). Materials will be provided (there will a charge of £10 if you want to purchase them) *It is hoped to follow this workshop with 6 more workshops to further explore the potential of calligraphy The workshop will be held by Satwinder Sehmi, a London based calligrapher who has an international reputation. He works both in the graphic and painterly aspects of calligraphy. The author of ‘Calligraphy — The Rhythm of Writing', Sehmi has taught in Japan, Holland, France, Germany and The States. He has also held workshops at various colleges — Middlesex University, Camberwell College of Art amongst others. A 1.5m x 1.5m panel of his work entitled ‘War' is on permanent display at The British Library and his work is in public and private collections internationally.
