SomoS Arts is delighted to announce By Malevolent Design, an extraordinary live sound and painting performance uniting the talents of Bahraini composer and musician Hameed Al Saeed and Iranian-Canadian visual artist Shoora Majedian. This captivating event, set to take place at SomoS artspace, promises an immersive, multi-sensory experience that seeks to foster a dialogue centered on healing and empathy. 

In By Malevolent Design, Al Saeed and Majedian engage in a profound collaborative endeavor, blending live music with overhead projection painting. The performance is designed to explore and mirror various psychological disorders through an intricate electronic soundscape inspired by the stigmatization of mental health issues in the Middle East. In this piece, Al Saeed meticulously crafts digital sonic textures incorporating input from electronically processed live traditional Bahraini drums and electric guitar, as well as field recordings and his own evocative Arabic poetry. These various elements are deconstructed to create a mesmerizing auditory mosaic inviting reflection and connection. Al Saeed’s poetry will also be featured as a mural within the gallery space, further enriching the thematic landscape of the event.
