by and by is an exhibition of new works by artists Ian Jackson and Francis Lloyd- Jones.
About
"The things that we surround ourselves with: we are unsure of why we have them or what will be done with them, but they're there. We pick them up, carry them with us and set them aside for undisclosed periods of time. It’s these objects and things that form our surroundings and influence us. They seep into what we do and begin to form collections. They wait for us to realise why we find them interesting, why we picked them over everything else and wait for a realisation into what we are meant to do with them.”
It's this slow influence, almost unnoticeable that has occurred between the two artists and has begun to act upon their work. Jackson and Lloyd-Jones have been in dialogue for over four years; conversations, swapping works, exhibiting along side each other in group shows and developing work in tandem has made its mark. Both artists have known since their early discussions that this relationship would present itself and by and by is the realisation of this prolonged influence.
The title for the exhibition takes the form of an idiom. It refers to this indefinite future, a time period in which things are set aside but will get done. Now, something is being done about it.
by and by aims to unpick the impact of each artist on the other. Interweaving works both formally and conceptually the two practices merge, authorship becomes shared and new narratives are made.
