Five Peckham artists come together for one evening only at the hauntingly beautiful Asylum to present Burlesque & Allegory. Set within in the delicacy of this melancholy building, a dialogue of cultural and personal stories plays out. Walk among interweaving narratives placed around the chapel. Curated by Laura Moreton-Griffiths.
About
Georgina Corrie | Laura Moreton-Griffiths | Corinne Noble | Lucy Soni | Sonia Stanyard
Georgina Corrie’s ceramics express the secularisation of the decorative, contrasting optical geometry, colour and ornate painted surfaces; Laura Moreton-Griffiths’ sculptural drawing objects depict allegorical narratives of war staged off the wall and into the room; Corinne Noble’s images each outline invented ‘plants’, fictional growths assembled using lines traced from photographs of roadside litter; Lucy Soni’s paintings and sculptural objects play with the absurd and useless, the everyday and the throw away from a vantage point high above the viewer; Sonia Stanyard’s visually poetic landscapes take shape, formed of brushstrokes, paint spatters and swathes of color and move between realism and abstraction.
