A solo exhibition of work by artist Mhairi Treharne.

About

Treharne’s Brythonic/brɪˈθɒnɪk Dreams (brythonic: of, relating to, or characteristic of the division of the Celtic languages that includes Welsh, Cornish, and Breton) casts an enquiring lens onto the ancient sleeping pasts within the landscapes of West Wales. Describing her work as ‘forged’, this body of work reconnects Treharne to her ancestral past yet intrinsically imbues her to current family life in Pembrokeshire.

Canadian born artist Mhairi’s precious stitched tablets, are unique, glittering, small, ’wholly crafted’ hardy gems, ideally situated to story tell for centuries ahead.

Treharne’s paternal line were welsh speakers, being naturally drawn to its mystery, eloquence and a language recently lost within the family, she finds a natural solace within her art practice by using this as a springboard for her ideas.

Connection with the ‘brythonic’ past of the landscape is driven by a strong and haunting feeling of everything that surrounds her.

Mhairi has brought an outsider’s eyes to the sights of her heritage. At the heart of this show is a romantic sensibility about the verdant and rich landscapes of Pembrokeshire and the United Kingdom. Treharne is at home with viewers who sense a sacred connection with sites and landscapes across the United Kingdom.
