Within this new body of work, Broken Hearts, artist Victor Castillo appropriates the narrative logic of children's tales and vintage aesthetics to present us with allegories about human nature. As if it were a contemporary chronicle, Castillo presents us with parables of greed, inequality, indifference, brutality, racism, and other values that the artist sees being imposed worldwide. His colorful and whimsical paintings have also been described as tales of corrupted innocence and beauty, where Castillo finds a balance between the weighty understanding of reality and an altruistic vision of love and hope.Since moving to Los Angeles in 2010, Chilean artist Victor Castillo has presented his work in solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, and Tokyo, as well in group exhibitions in the United States, Chile, Denmark, Italy, England, Germany, France, and Switzerland. His work was featured at Les Enfantes Terribles at the Lyon Biennial, France and has been reproduced in numerous publications worldwide.
