“Everything is about a conflict of power.
Passion is flesh.
It says ‘If I can’t have you, no one can’
Makes you pay the price.”
Naz Köktentürk
About
With her projects photographer Naz Köktentürk reflects the pain and anger by following the myths and rituals in Islamic and Shaman cultures in Middle East and in Central Asia regions. In her recent works Köktentürk traces another ritual called “Voodoo” which can be traced in a different region, West Africa, especially in the capital of animism Burkina Faso. “Bring him back to me, Voodoo" exhibition includes photographs that were taken during her Burkina Faso visit which is the last stop of the artist's long term research on "myths and rituals". With this exhibition Köktentürk examines Voodoo rituals that are constantly confronted in the culture of this region. From the general to personal; artist questions the sorrows, the obsessions but mostly the stories of passion through the symbols of dark magic. Photographer Naz Köktentürk's solo project exhibition "Bring him back to me, Voodoo" can be visited between 7 February – 10 March 2018 at BLOK art space’s Çukurcuma venue.
